Kurita Water Industries Ltd., a Japanese water treatment chemicals manufacturer announced that it has decided to establish a new research and development base in Akishima-shi, Tokyo in April 2022. The construction will begin in May this year. It is planned to be completed in March 2022.

Functions of the Kurita Global Technology Center (Nogi-machi, Shimotsuga-gun, Tochigi), the existing research and development base of Kurita, will be transferred to the new global technology center on March 31, 2022.

Kurita will establish the new base in response to the aging of the existing Kurita Global Technology Center. The project is aimed at building a development environment with state-of-the-art equipment and analytical instruments, so as to accelerate the creation of leading-edge technologies and comprehensive solutions related to “water and the environment.”

The total construction cost is estimated to be approx. 30.0 billion yen ($275 million), and Kurita plans to finance the project through a combination of its own funds and debt financing.

Kurita will position the new global technology center as the core hub of its global research and development system. The company aims to make the new base a R & D facility that is open to all, where new innovations are created through interactions with customers and various other stakeholders.
