Jakson Green, a prominent player in the sustainable energy sector, announced a groundbreaking collaboration. The company has entered into an initial agreement with the Deendayal Port Authority to establish a state-of-the-art green ammonia plant at Kandla Port in Gujarat, marking a pivotal moment in India’s transition towards sustainable energy sources.

In a statement released by the company, Jakson Green Private Ltd confirmed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Deendayal Port Authority for the development of a green ammonia facility valued at approximately Rs 2,400 crore ($289 million). The facility, strategically located at Kandla Port in Gujarat, will be developed in phases, with an anticipated annual production capacity of 1,33,000 tonnes of green ammonia.

One of the significant highlights of this initiative is its potential to generate employment opportunities. The project is expected to create more than 5,000 jobs, encompassing various roles in operations and maintenance (O&M), thus contributing significantly to economic growth in the region.

The MOU was formalized through the signatures of Jakson Green’s Joint Managing Director, Krishnan Kannan, and the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Deendayal Port Authority, Sushil Chandra Nahak. Under the agreement, the Deendayal Port Authority will extend support to Jakson Green by assisting in obtaining essential registrations, approvals, clearances, and offering various incentives to facilitate the smooth progress of the project.

In a statement, Krishnan Kannan expressed the company’s steadfast commitment to driving India’s sustainable energy transition. He emphasized that the partnership not only promotes the shift towards renewable energy but also acts as a catalyst for local economic growth and the well-being of the community.

This significant collaboration was formalized on the sidelines of the Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS) 2023. The summit, acknowledging the maritime industry’s substantial contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, focused on the pivotal role of renewable energy in decarbonizing the sector.

The establishment of the green ammonia plant reflects India’s proactive approach towards adopting eco-friendly energy solutions, setting a precedent for the industry and reinforcing the nation’s commitment to a sustainable future.
