Zhejiang Petroleum to Start Remaining Units at Zhoushan, China

China’s Rongsheng said on Tuesday it has started up the remaining units in the first phase of Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical (ZPC) refinery complex, one of two new major refineries built in China in 2019.

Located in east China’s Zhoushan city, the complex is now producing oil products and chemicals to commercial specifications, ZPC stated on its website.

ZPC said it has started test production at ethylene, aromatics and other downstream facilities, without giving further details.

In late May, ZPC started a first 200,000 barrels per day (bpd) crude processing unit, following on from the start of a 400,000-bpd refinery owned by another private chemical major Hengli Petrochemical.

ZPC’s new units will include a second 200,000-bpd crude unit, a 1.2 million tonnes per year ethylene unit and a 2 million tonnes per year paraxylene unit, according to industry sources.

Zhejiang Rongsheng owns 51% of Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical Co ltd, with Shanghai-listed Zhejiang Tongkun and local government-owned Juhua each owning 20%. The Zhoushan government holds the remaining 9%.
