Röhm, a Germany-based methacrylate chemicals supplier is expanding its production plant for PLEXIGLAS (polymethyl methacrylate) molding compounds in Shanghai.
The expanded molding compounds plant will go into operation in the second quarter of 2023.
Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) molding compounds are sold in the US under the brand name ACRYLITE.
Recently, the company has announced the expansion of a production plant for PLEXIGLAS molding compounds in Worms, Germany.
“This significant global capacity expansion will enable us to further increase delivery reliability and flexibility for the benefit of our customers worldwide”, said Röhm COO Hans-Peter Hauck.
Röhm’s branded polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is an in-demand raw material in countless sectors, such as the automotive, construction and lighting industries as well as for domestic appliances.
According to the company, the demand for PMMA in Asia is mainly driven by the rapidly expanding automotive industry and the lighting industry.
Roehm currently operates a 100,000 tonne per year methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant and a 40,000 tonne per year PMMA plant in Caojing, Shanghai.
