Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) has recently obtained approval from its board of directors for a significant undertaking known as the Ethylene Cracker Project.
Ethylene Cracker Project at Bina Refinery
This ambitious project encompasses the establishment of downstream petrochemical plants and the expansion of the Bina Refinery in Madhya Pradesh State. With a projected capital expenditure of approximately Rs 490 billion, this venture aims to enhance BPCL’s capabilities and bolster its presence in the industry.
Wind Power Plants for Captive Consumption
In line with its commitment to sustainable energy solutions, BPCL’s board has also greenlit the construction of two wind power plants. These plants, with a combined capacity of 50 MW each, are intended to cater to BPCL’s captive consumption needs. One plant will be situated at the Bina Refinery in Madhya Pradesh, while the other will be established at the Mumbai Refinery in Maharashtra. The total project cost for these wind power plants amounts to around Rs 9.78 billion.
Petroleum Oil Lubricants (POL) and Lube Oil Base Stock (LOBS) Storage Installations at Rasayani
To further enhance its operational infrastructure, BPCL has received approval for the construction of Petroleum Oil Lubricants (POL) and Lube Oil Base Stock (LOBS) storage installations at Rasayani in Maharashtra. These facilities, equipped with efficient receipt pipelines, will serve as vital storage hubs for BPCL’s POL and LOBS products. The project cost for these installations is estimated to be around Rs 19.03 billion.
Project Progress and Completion
It is important to note that the realization of these projects is contingent upon several factors, including obtaining clearances from statutory authorities if required. BPCL will diligently navigate through the requisite processes and comply with the necessary regulations to ensure the smooth progress and successful completion of these initiatives. Timely execution of the projects will be crucial in meeting the anticipated production timelines.
Production and Product Range
Upon completion of these projects, BPCL aims to expand its product portfolio and offer a comprehensive range of petroleum by-products. The complex will enable the production of essential commodities such as gasoline, diesel, aviation turbine fuel (ATF)/jet fuel, Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE), High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), bitumen, benzene, and more. The diversified product offerings will bolster BPCL’s position in the market and cater to the evolving needs of various industries.
