Formosa, a Taiwanese steam cracker operator announced the restart of production at its No.2 ethylene cracker in Mailiao following a shutdown last week.
Due to technical issues, the 720,000 tonne per year cracker was taken off line on 1st June. The issue did not appear to result in any shutdown or reduction of operations at downstream plants at the same location.
The company has maintained full production at their Mailiao crackers No.1 and No.3. Formosa can produce approximately 3 million tonne per year of ethylene from its three on-site crackers.
The company’s No.3 cracker, which produces 1.2 million tonne per year of ethylene, was scheduled for maintenance in mid-August. The unit is expected to be shut for about 40 days.
