BASF SE will increase production capacity in Guaratinguetá, Brazil, for its sodium methylate plant. The nameplate capacity will increase by 30 %, from 60,000 metric tons to 80,000 metric tons. By 2020, the new capacity is expected to become operational.
Sodium methylate is an effective and reliable catalyst that provides a sustainable solution for biodiesel production and use, meeting engine manufacturers ‘ requirements for high-quality fuels and lower emissions. Sodium methylate supports increased yields and low cost of biodiesel production.
BASF will be supporting the growth of its sodium methylate customers with this expansion.
The Guaratingueta site is close to major Brazilian biodiesel producers and close to the export port of Santos.
